Refurb 9700pro 160$

These look like the leftovers from the refurbs that were loaded a couple days ago. After Newegg refurbs are a day old (actually, maybe even after an hour or so) it's a pretty good bet that all the good stuff has been picked through and the remaining refurbs either are overpriced or have problems. That 9700 Pro has a one star rating at Newegg, so it probably has some kind of problem. Also, with retail 9800 Pros going for around $200 periodically (they are $212 right now at Newegg), a fully functional 9700 Pro for $160 would probably be an okay deal but not super hot.

As to whether it is generally okay to buy Newegg refurb video cards, your mileage may vary on that. I have always had good luck with them but not infrequently you see others complaining about problems with them.

whether or not it's ok depends on whether or not you want to risk wasting time installing a [potentially] defective card and [possibly] waste money shipping it back to them. As you know egg is good on returns, so if you like the thrill, go for it.

Just realize they'll keep sending the same crap out again until the same one comes back n times.

Refurbs are always risky, as you know. But I purchased BBA 9600XT and Sapphire 9600 (both refurb) like last two months, and both was fine. I ordered Gigabyte 9800 Pro (refurb) yesterday, and will see how it is. (But Newegg is good for RMA anyway, and it won't cost much to return anyway because it's bare card)

its risky...i got a biostar motherboard refurbed from newegg recently. Not only were there bent capacitors, but the ziff socket tabs were broken. It looked like an 8 year old on a sugar high decided the motherboard was his plaything

it bears repeating that

They definitely don't look at the refurb stuff they send out, nor say why it was returned previously (maybe you just won't notice?)

Now they have some at $145.50 -- ones that have a 5 star rating. Link. I would go for those if I weren't holding out for a 9800 Pro. Get 'em people! Only 7 left at this moment.

woah, now they're actually getting me interested, despite my little rant above... must resist... must remember prior newegg refurb fiascos...
