newegg has these in refurb.

apparently this only works on tyan thunder series 760mpx boards.. still cheap, goes for $100+ new.

compgeeks has this leadman 12v atx complaint 500watt for $47

The Newegg description reads:

Antec ATX12V 510Watt Power Supply 6-output, dual fan-cooled. Designed for Althon MP. For system requires +3.3V. AMD & Tyan approved

So, can this be used on an Athlon XP? Note the 'Designed for athlon MP.'

EDIT: These more powerful PS's only pull/use as much power is need by the system, not the full 510 watts ALL the time, right?

i am not sure. i thought it was 2 connectors, one normal atx one, and some seperate connectors. but i dont know. it says it works on the tyan boards.

the picture of a tyan thunder board looks like its proprietary. nevermind.

Well, it's a 6-output, meaning it has 6 power cables (and the MB cable), right?

I've had (silly as it sounds) a 300W PS in my system, coupled with an old 250W AT PS - devices were split between the two of these. I simply used the 250W because it was a spare lying around (and who needed an AT PS anyway?), but at this price I might as well just jump to the 500W one and cut down on my heat.

That means Tyan Thunder K7 demands stringent power supplies. That means if it works for Tyan K7, then it should works for most board. BTW, dual amd board usually draw more power, that is why most 300/350 watts psu couldn't handle it.

i've read its a good power supply, there are a few reviews of it out there.

there is the other "alluminum" cased shiney versioon there thats not a geek special, so with coupon itsl ike $11 more. there are more reviews of that one online, but they are the same PSU.

i personally bought the leadman, since well i have a p4, and the antec doesnt have p4 connectors. i dont even know if the antec has a normal atx connector since i checked out a tyan thunder board, and its power connector is bigger than a normal atx one.

hans, so you think the Antec connector might not fit? Well I have an Abit KR7 board, and still using only the 300w. I'm maxing this thing out with too many stuff, and I want another HD so I'll need to get a new PSU first.

if it works on the Tyan Thunder K7 it has a 24-pin ATX connector. Most ATX boards use 20-pin. I doubt that it has both of these connectors.

I think this is the same model I was looking to buy from newegg a couple of weeks ago but decided against because it seemed to be motherboard specific. I contacted the manufacturer & they have 3 adapters for it C1-C3, to fit diff. motherboards one of which weas a P4 motherboard. Looks lke you'd have to buy the adapter though...
