Refrigerator gurus?

Our freezer door was left open for several hours and everything in it melted. It is now making a very funny noise. I am wondering if we'll need to just replace the entire thing?

Any ideas if leaving it open can cause serious damage?

Probably needs to be defrosted. And to the dolts, no duh it's frost free, but frost free does not work if the door is left open for extended periods of time. The evaporator is probably encrusted in ice. Leaving the door open is not gonna cause damage, it is not going to necessitate replacing the fridge.

My guess would be that something melted and refroze on a moving part.

I think I would completely defrost the thing by turning it off and leaving the doors open for a few hours.

Or

It could be that the motor was near the end of its life and leaving the door open and the motor running continuously pushed it over the edge.

Funny noise is probably all of the excess moisture being evaporated. Is it a hiss or a crackle?\ maybe?
