Refresh Rates

I have a question for folks,

I own a GS790, 19 " CRT monitor. According to viewsonic it is capable of the following:

.22mm horizontal dot pitch
.26mm diagonal dot pitch

1600x1200 maximum resolution
Displays a maximum resolution of 1600x1200; 1280x1024 optimal resolution at 95Hz flicker-free refresh rate for easy-on-the-eyes viewing.
1600x1200 @ 75Hz
1280x1024 @ 95Hz
1024x768 @ 115Hz
800x600 @ 145Hz

I have pretty much always run at 60 Hz

I run my resolution at 1280x1024

things look pretty decent, but I keep seeing how higher refresh rate are supposed to be better. When I change the refresh rate to anything besides 60Hz it seems to make the images wiggle or distort a bit, normally side to side, it is very annoying and hard on the eyes. I have tried using different refresh rates at all different resolutions and 60hz always seems to be the only tolerable option. Also I use windows XP Pro SP2 and my monitor will not go past 85hz. If I unhide the other refresh rates and try them, I get a message saying it is out of range, my monitor goes black and then recovers back to the previous setting.

This also happens on a Viewsonic 17" that I used to own.
Also happened with my old GeForce 4 Ti 4400

I have the latest drivers for my GeForce 6600 GT card and the drivers from Viewsonic for their CRT monitors installed.

is this a trait of Viewsonic Monitors? Is this my eyes? ( I have 20/20 in one and 20/15 in the other)

can anyone explain why this is happening and how to correct it? or should I be looking to get a different monitor?

sorry just realized i put this in General instead of Tech Support, where it belongs, if someone could move it there, that would be super, thanks
