Refresh Rates..

I'm not sure if this is in the wrong forum, but since it is indeed video related here it goes. I'm curious if anyone is able to play games at a refresh rate higher that 60hz with an Nvidia card? I have a GF4 TI 4200 (300/600), and with the refresh rate override checked, I can still only run games @ 60hz, which is killing my eyes. I am getting ready to pick up an LCD to see if that helps me, because I miss being able to play games for more than 15 minutes at a time.

I think this is a windows XP problem. Download Reforce and you can set the refresh rate manually for any resolution.

1 thing. My Windows desktop is at 800X600. I play CS at 1024X786. Everytime I wanto play CS, I have to change the reslution in windows when using the program. Ny way to fix this?

Nvidia's latest 53.03 drivers have a refresh overriding utility built in that works just fine. No more need for 3rd party programs and registry hacks.

The issue here is that refresh rates that are supported by your monitor aren't being used. ReFresh Force and similar utilities will fix this for you.

Everytime I wanto play CS, I have to change the reslution in windows when using the program.

Why do you have to do that? Just launch the game normally and it'll automatically switch.

you didn't tell us the resolution that you use. I mean if you have a 17"monitor and you max at 12x10 or 16x12 it seems logical for your monitor to have this refresh rate.
But the most probable thing is that you are talking for any resolution, so go ahead and use the program.
Curious though,what win xp version you use? And even if your monitor cannot be seen correctly by windows, doesn't your gpu come with a program that changes resolutions?

Hmm...May depend on your monitor I guess. I have an old Mitsbishi Diamond pro(Diamondtron tube) that can be picky with Windows and refresh rates. Up until the 53.03's I have not been able to get nVidia's refresh rate override to work. Since the 53.03's worked on my picky turd, I assumed that they should work on most if not all others.

I've got a Ti 4200, higher refresh rates are no problem. I rarely use less than 85mghz. The cards not the problem. BTW, my OS is 98se

This 9600 Pro AIW I got is a nasty little ah heck to get the correct refresh rate working. It was off and on. Sometimes it would correctly work at 75hz and other times I would manually have to set it up. Now I cant even force 75hz on the thing.

Kind of annoying to say the least.

Does reforce work with ATI cards as well?

Yes.

ReForce is driver and GPU independent which means it works on anything providing you have the correct monitor INF loaded on your system. If you still have problems on your ATi card, turn off DDC information in your driver control panel and manually set the highest refresh rate and resolution in the two drop-down menus.

Sorry that I failed to include that I am currently using a 17" monitor and run it @ 1024x768 @ 85hz for normal use. I only experienced the problem of the refresh rate drop when trying to play games. As far as the Nvidia drivers, even the 53.XX didn't seem to work, even though I had checked the override box. I just recently switched to an ATI 9600 AIW Pro, and will be picking up a NEC 18" LCD friday.

Windows 9x\ME is not affected by this, only NT kernel versions (NT, 2000, XP).
