Refresh rate

I have the Viewsonic GS790 (a great monitor, btw) and just installed WinXP. I changed the Detonators to the 22.80's, reinstalled the monitor's .ini files and noticed a pronounced fluttering @85Hz. 85Hz was always good enough in the past on my Win98SE machine, but I notched it up to 100Hz on my new computer and the fluttering disappeared. My question is.....Does a higher refresh rate have any long-term effect on the monitor? Just curious.

Technically yes, however in reality it is very difficult to measure how much. Running fast refresh rates means the horizontal and vertical deflection and well as the power supply circuits are turned on and off more times. It also means the beam current hits the phosphors on the screen more times. This reduces the lifetime of the phosphor and the cathode of the electron gun.

Hmmmm, that's interesting, gosharkss. I felt that there was some sort of 'negative' effect by going to a higher refresh rate (however negligible). Thanks for the response.
