higher refresh rate is better right??

i bought a 19' mag monitor today

19" High-Contrast FST CRT Monitor
Model: 986FS
19" screen (18" viewable)
Up to 1600 x 1200 resolution at 65Hz
0.25mm dot pitch
JAG ODS single-button control; choose a control function and make display adjustments with 1 dial
e-DVD function enhances display performance for high-demand graphics
50-160Hz vertical frequency
30-86Hz horizontal frequency

the display is DECENT at best. if i crank up the refresh frequency to 85mhz @ 1152x864 will that be better?? highest refresh freqeuncy is optimal right??

Higher is better if the screen flicker bothers your eyes....best setting is the lowest refresh rate that doesn't bother you. Higher than that doesn't help. I personally like 85Hz 🙂

ok thanks for the advice. i just switched from a high quality 15' sony trinitron to a cheapo 19' mag monitor. my eyes still adjusting
 
rite now im at 85mhz @ 1152x864 and my text looks very fuzzy. its like pissing me off. is there anything i can do about it or is it just the crappy monitor
????
 
you should have AT LEAST 75hz on highest res (in your case 1600x1200)

the fuziness is due to crappy dot pitch or tube
 
Not to offend but that question is almost impossible to answer, your "looks terrible" could be that same as someone else's "looks great," it's more or less subjective. I'm mean my parents think their Celeron 400 is really fast. FYI, I have a 19" aperture grill that runs at 1024 768 100Hz and it "looks great." 🙂

Also, since you upgraded from a 15", that might explain why it quality doesn't look as good. Since you have more "real estate" with a bigger monitor, lower resolutions tend to not look as good because they're stretched across a larger area. For example, 640 480 looks sharper/better on a 15" than a 19".
 
Sometimes the refresh rate can affect the sharpness/fuzzyness of the monitor. Try bumping it back down to 75Hz and see if that helps out.

to poppaspice, i get what your saying. the thing with the stretching of the resolution, on my 15' i was at 1024x768 i thought the standard res for 19' was
1152x864 so thats what i set it to.

to DN. maybe ill take a screenshot later, too lazy 😛

im guessing the big thing is adjusting from 15' flat aperture grille to 19' shadow mask.

ill try to let it grow on me, if anything, ill give it to family. hehe.
