I've got my monitor set to go 1280x1024@85Hz on the desktop, so why does it switch to 60Hz when I get into Jedi Knight 2? Is there some configuration setting that's making it go down to 60? what's goin on here?

Don't know what happen there.

What drivers are you using? I believe you need the refreshrate fix and a program like refreshlock to force the refresh rate

The 60 Hz refresh issue has been covered about 1278564 times here before and it would be nice if people used the search function.

Install RivaTuner and install the 60 Hz refresh fix and your 60 Hz problems will be gone from all your games.

For winxp directx, run dxdiag (press windows button and r) and then goto the 'more help' tab click on the 'overide' button and type in your required refresh rate.

Geesh you're all ovbiously n00b's, the trick is as with any quake 3 arena engine based game is use the console. Then type r_DisplayRefresh "x", followed by com_maxfps "x". Then finally type vid_restart.(Where x is the desired refresh rate).

The first command manually sets the refresh rate, the second command then sets the maximum frames your video card will display. The third just reloads the current map, prefabs etc and applys the settings.

Quake 3 Engine normally overides any little programs such as Powerstrip, RivaTuner and others so this is the best way to fix it.

If you have any other queries with quake engine based games (there's hundreds of them now), just email me at cbuttery@optusnet.com.au and i would be glad to help.

Here's a tweak guide for Jedi Knight II. In the advanced graphics section, it mentions the entry that needs to be added in the config file to manually set the desired refresh rate. Also, make sure vsync is disabled.
