Refresh rate problems

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out.

The max hz my monitor can display is 120hz on 640x480.

I used to have a geforce 2 mx 400 and I played games on 640x480 with 120hz with no problems.

Then I bought a 6600gt and now I cant play on 120hz. When I try to open up a game. The screen is all black, but you can still hear sounds in the background when you move your mouse cursor over options.

I dont kno whats the problem. some people say Im using a hz that is not supported by my monitor, but it is supported and it worked well with a fairly way worse video card (geforce 2).

Why not run at a more reasonable refresh rate. I've never seen the need to go over 100Hz. Why do you need it so high?

The irony is that at 120Hz you may end up with the same eye strain or flickering problems people have at 60Hz beacuase it's a multiple of the 60Hz line frequency.

becuz im used to my ingame sensitivity on 120hz. and no. 120hz for me is very smooth. i dont wanna change my whole configuration around when all I have to do is get help from people that have knowledge in this kind of problem

First off, 120Hz straining your eyes because it's a multiple of 60Hz is rediculous.

If setting the refresh with the control panel isn't working you might try using a third party tool like RefreshLock http://www.pagehosting.co.uk/rl/

Not at all. If you have something like florecent lights in the room it can cause an effect like a visual resonant frequency. Look at a CRT through a video camera. The freqencies don't match so you see a line moving through the screen. If the frequencies match or are multiples this line is more likely to appear as a flashing effect. And I said it's possible, not a certain.

yes. I use refreshforce to change my hz. and yes. it does work on 100hz. but I just dont kno why it seems to not work with my new video card and it works with my old horrible card.
