Umm..Ok so...

I just upgraded from winxp 32bit to win7 64bit. Everything seems great and all that...however..I just stumbled into a large issue I see many people having after poking around google search...

Somebody please tell me there is a way to force a refresh rate for a specific resolution for windows7 during gaming....

The nvidia forceware drivers used to have the ability to enable the "tweaks" to force a refresh rate, but the win7 drivers do not have this....Apparently all the utilities that used to work in XP, do not work in win7 either.

I use a CRT and normally I run a 170hz refresh rate in games, but I am stuck at 100hz right now unless I make my desktop resolution the same as my gaming resolution before launching.

If I cant fix this, Ill be uninstalling Win7 and going back to WinXP.

Ahh, refresh rates and Windows 7, I feel you man. I had to go through it with an ATi card which was even more of a pita.

The first step is have you tried creating your own custom resolution? If that doesn't work, I'll think of some more ideas. Don't give up hope, as it IS possible.

Erg, ya sweet, I just noticed that after you mentioned it. Ill have to test that out.

EDIT: OK. Thanks for that man. It looks like the custom resolution thing will work. What I had to do was manually add in resolutions and refresh rates I wanted instead of picking them in the list.

I had just found a command line thing for steam games as well. -freq <number> also works. Of course, that would only help steam games....

I also see another serious problem. My rivatuner gamma settings I use for games isnt being applied to the games. :/ Bleh.

out of curiosity, what is the monitor make and model you are using? A CRT pushing 170Hz is pretty impressive.

Not really. Its a viewsonic PS790-2 from back in like 1999 or 2000 or something. Most CRTS do 200ish refresh rates at lower resolutions. I play games at 640x480 and 800x600, fyi. :p

Some people will do anything to get an edge. So much for a level playing-field.
