If my monitor refreshes at 60Hz (60 times per second), How is it possible to see more than 60 frames per second?

you would need about 120fps to "see" 60fps with a 60hz refresh rate.
anything less and youll be "dropping frames" all over the place.

etc...

not only would you never see more then 60fps with a 60hz refresh rate, you would need more then 60fps just to "see" 60fps.

yep youd need 60fps as a minimum.

but those 60fps coming from your vid card aint gonna be in sync with your monitors refresh rate, so youd actually "see" less.
the more fps you have, the better chance of getting all 60fps (60hz) on your screen. (especially with vsync off)
at twice the refresh rate (120fps @ 60hz) you could pretty much guarentee youre seeing all the fps.

its a little confusing, but more fps always means youll get a smoother game.
...id suggest a refresh rate higher then 60hz tho ;)

yeah, only consider vsync if your monitor supports real high refresh rates. games look sick at 800x600@160hz with 6x aa and 16x af and vsync on.

even then games just "feel" better with vsync off.

I think 100Hz w/Vsync and 100 minimum fps would be the best. It will show all fps because 100 would be the minimum.

Acutally, that is totally wrong. Try testing it out for yourself.

sorry THUGSROOK but i have to point out that you are very wrong. if you are pushing a constant 60fps at 60hz then 60 indvidual frames get displayed to the monitor, one for each refresh. if turn vsync off then you might be able to push a constant 120fps at 60hz but you are still only going to get 60 frames displayed on your monitor, although those frames are going to be made up of portions of the 120 frames your videocard produced.

as for the argument over how many fps humans can see, that is like arguing over how high people can jump. it depends on the person. ;)

Yeah he could. He could have said the human eye can't differentiate between anything over 12 FPS. :D ;)
