I'm doing a complete reformat and I need to get to a command prompt on Windows XP so I can format C: before I reinstall windows. How do I get to some sort of command prompt on which I can format my hard drive.

windows xp cannot install from a command prompt. You need to boot from the CD. There will be options to wipe your installation partition prior to installation.

And since this is NOT HARDWARE RELATED, thanks for posting off topic.

Well just use a floppy disk like a dos boot disk I think would be good enough. Stick a sucker in and right click on the a drive. Then goto format and choose dos boot disk. I know that option is in xp so hope this helps.
