Damn, I must be getting old... Sets of reformatting? Well incase Im understanding the question you fdisk to create your partition and set it active, then reboot with cdrom support and at the A: prompt type format c: , it will do the rest..just follow the prompts an after format go straight into setup.. just type in setup. This is assuming Win98... with win2k you just need to boot off your cd and follow prompts, installing drivers for any SCSI controller not supported at the begining

Press delete on bootup to get into the BIOS, then go to the Boot menu. Make sure Floppy drive is at the top (or "removable disks") and that you have a Win9x bootup disk in the drive. Also, make sure all your jumpers are set okay, if using IDE.. that's a killer, too, though this symptom doesn't seem like it would be that problem..

Good luck.

There is too much missing info here.. are you trying to install in a new computer? If so an if the drive has been auto detected in bios then its just a matter of setting your boot to the proper controller. If you have an ATA66 or ATA100 controller that the drive is on then you set the bios to boot to floppy or CD which ever one you have your boot disk on..then to SCSI..as those controllers are seen as SCSI.. your drives if on that type controller need to be detected by that controller, usually a separate bios screen for that setup..then after they are detected it will begin booting your boot disk.. You may not have the ATA controller enabled or have the drive on the wrong motherboard connector. Check your motherboard manual to make sure you are configured properly.
