I wanted to reformat my HD so I typed 'deltree C:\windows' at the command prompt. It deleted and I used a boot disk and installed WinME. when it brought me to my desktop......I noticed the drivers to my video card were still installed .........I looked in the window\system and all the old files were still there......it wasn't DELETED. I don't know alot about reformatting..........so did I do anything wrong? Is their some dos commands I should type to make sure the windows\system was deleted? any help would be greatly appreciated.

Probably because you deleted the Windows directory. You have a boot disk right? You will have to boot off the disk and go into the c: directory and doa format c: ~k~

If you dont have a Boot disk go over to your neighbor's house and borrow one 😀

I used a boot disk and went to the command prompt and typed 'format c:' It deleted and I went on to install WinME. After I installed I went to the windows\system and the old files are still there

Using the boot disk, boot to the command prompt. Once there, type in "fdisk". Delete the primary partition then reboot using the boot disk. When you get back to the command prompt, type "fdisk" again and create a primary dos partition. Once the partition is created, re-boot again using the boot disk. When you are back at the command prompt, type "format c:" and it will re-format your drive. Then install the OS and you should be good to go.
