Refocusing hobbies

ATOT, I need your help. I am getting older (almost 30), I have a job and now a wife. I love love love to game but it is just getting in the way now. I need a new computer to keep up, don't want to spend the $1200; plus honestly, it feels like I could do something better with my time. I thought about learning Spanish or getting my phd, but I have always wanted to own a business. I have experience with embedded and stand-alone apps, I just don't have any ideas! My wife would support me 100% (she has a small part time business already). I have some seed money, I just can't seem to get started. I thought about web pages or computer repair but those markets are so saturated. Local Craigslist adds showed people working those for minimum wage. Have any of you started a business? Does anyone do software on the side? How did you start?

"Better" is what you enjoy. You only get ~80 years here, and if you spend it all doing what you /think/ you should do instead of what you /want/ to do, you're squandering your time. If you want to game, game. There's nothing wrong with that. You don't have to make money from your amusements. Here's a few things I'd like to do. Some are more realistic than others. Programming, and working with libre software
growing tobacco, and making snuff and snus
beach combing
buying/selling junk and antiques
make whisky
repair computers
treasure hunt

I'm guessing your work is something computer related?

I suggest getting a hobby that has nothing or little do with computers. Wood working perhaps?
