Reducing Spam

I have noticed many people that have modified thier e-mail addresses by adding the words UNSUBSCRIBE or REMOVE in them in an effort to reduce the amont of spam received. Like this: Mail Me
Note the link contained therein.

Does any one know if this works or how to use it effectively?

I've personally never seen a person put UNSUBSCRIBE in their email address. Your best bet would be to use an excellent spam-filtering system, either locally or through your isp/host.

Thanks for the replies but I guess I forgot to mention that I use Gmail and no actual spam gets in my inbox, but even then I would like to reduce spam incase I get something I need in the spam box and don't wanna lose it in the chaos. This is more of a precaution I guess. Also I know plenty of people that use outlook and have the spam prob and wanna help them if I can.

Things like that are pretty common. "myREMOVEname @ mymail.com" or myname AT mymail DOT com. I don't know if they really stop the spambots or not, but I'd think some of it would help at least a little.

To the OP: The basic idea is that spambots, programs/applications, run through webpages trying to find email addresses. The thought is that if they find them on a webpage, they must be in use. They can then add these to their database and use them themselves and/or sell them to other spammers.

By placing something like that in your email address, the goal is to give the spambots an inaccurate address. What you need to keep in mind is that it's very likely they have common inserts already added and filtered out. I would recommend putting some random text and telling the user to remove it when they actually send you an email.

I guess annexes like REMOVE are too common to be effective. But you can decieve mailbots by individually added letters (maybe r3m0ve?) and if you resign to use the html mail-link.
