Reducing hd partitions is giving me a ms-dos compatibility headache

Right now I have 2 harddrives (soon to be 3) spread across 7 partitions. I actually want to dump 2 of them using Partion Magic 4.0, but when I do I'm stuck using ms-dos compatibility mode. What's more I get an extra cd-rom icon that crashes my system if I double click on it. I've gone back to 7 partitions for now...what's up with this?

What exactly did you do using partition magic 4?

PM requires DOS to get around Window's protected mode

there may be updates availiable for PM4 for that icon problem

u know, after u install the updates, boot to DOS from a boot disk and run the DOS version of PM from the PM directory

PM6 has more of the bugs worked out and has a better interface and improved functionality

AC> When I delete the partitions, PM requires a reboot to complete the process in dos. It seems strange that I never had problems adding partitions. Since the extra icon is for a cd-rom, maybe I need to manually reassign it if that's possible.
