was driving through delaware today and i saw a truck that was at least a few feet higher than what was posted in the OP. i'd be curious if this truck could make it through most tunnels (~16ft limit, IIRC)

If it doesn't, I hope someone posts it to youtube. :D

that might be one of the worst examples of redneck engineering that i've ever seen.

the truck is 2WD, has no breakover angle because of the "steps", and has no wheel travel

fail truck is fail

The steps aren't affecting breakover. That is his mounting system for his torsion bars. he just slapped some homemade steps on those.

Of course. Everything you say and feel is fact and there is no valid alternative. Anyone who disagrees with you is an idiot and should be jailed at birth to protect you. For the good of society of course.

No, but it just so happens that in this case my opinion happens to coincide with the undeniable truth

You're an idiot for thinking those vehicles can even get close to being "safe"

That is your predispositioned opinion. Numerous others actually in that industry would beg to differ, as would as someone who has been driving a Geo Metro for 30 years and has never felt threatened by a large truck.

Anyone not concerned about being in a Geo Metro when a monster truck crushes them is out of their mind.

You assume that when a monster truck and Geo Metro occupy the same road they will with 100% probability collide...

What about what I actually suggested, someone in a Geo Metro who has been driving on the street with these monster trucks for 10, 20, 30 years and has never been "crushed" and who can factually testify from his PoV that those trucks are in fact safe?

All this whining and crying, I have to ask, what are the actual statistics of people being "crushed by monster trucks" on a daily basis compared to total "monster trucks" on the road or compared to fatalities in regular cars with similar bumper heights.

Doubtful it even compares, if for the simple fact that those types of trucks on the road are quite rare in comparison to other cars.

It's just like anything else that is small or rare enough to care about that gets glorified and blown out of proportion. ZOMG 1000000s are dying every day because of these evil monster trucks, it's an out of control epidemic, children are dying, WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW!!!1! Except not.

Contrary to what you believe, it is possible to properly lift a vehicle and maintain proper suspension geometry, steering, and adequate braking and bumper heights if you know what you are doing and aren't just a red neck who just got a welder for Christmas.

Shhh, don't let that get out though, it won't support your opinion very well.

Even if it is a hack job, it is an object, and it is inherently no more dangerous than a gun or ladder in responsible hands. Not everybody tack welds angle iron to lift their truck 3 miles into the air and proceeds to drive it like it's a Ferrari. I don't care what kind of "what if" scenarios you think up, such as "what if someone jumped out in front and he had to swerve with his fucked up steering"; someone observing proper following distance, appropriate speed, and anticipating other drivers is not going to need to swerve in the first place regardless of what he is driving. Very very few automotive collisions are actually unavoidable blameless "accidents".

A "monster truck", no, make that the thousands of threatening "monster trucks" on the road, that have never hit you or crushed you or even made reckless maneuvers around you is in fact for all intents and purposes 100% safe as far as your actual real world experience is concerned; you being alive to bitch about it says as much.

give me a break.

Me first. Next thread I expect to see is how black cars should be illegal because they are hard to see at night, when really the problem is you're too impatient to stay still at stop sign long enough to be sure *rolls eyes*. A world full of fear mongers and scared sheep I swear.

It's a free open public road. Nobody is forcing you to drive in front of, next to, or behind such a vehicle.

Except it isn't free. It's a road that you're given a privilege to drive on. Not following the rules will get that privilege removed.

This truck happens to be in a state with rather lax height laws, AL says taillights must be less than 60" from ground; which seems ridiculous, but i think this truck is still breaking that law. (and you'd think the law would be bumper based..)
Next door in GA, the law says the bumper height can't be changed more than 2" from OEM height.

Who gets to decide these "rules"? You? Or the person who owns such a truck? Hmm...

This has nothing to do with how high the truck can be though. They make drop bumpers.

so you are a poser then and just don't like you don't have the balls to go to the next level.

If by next level you mean retardedly useless. That truck is the epidome of poser, you are just too busy trying to blow yourself to see it. It can't do anything other than impress a mouth-breathing douche such as yourself.

I don't know what you're talking about... All I said was anyone who's in a Geo Metro or even a Toyota Yaris (like I have) who is getting into an accident with the truck that the OP posted (or any trunk like it) and is NOT concerned, is out of their mind. I don't see how anyone would want to be in such a car at the wrong place/time when a "monster truck" crashes into them. I mentioned nothing about the probability of colliding with one being more than colliding with another Geo Metro or Toyota Yaris.
