Redneck solution to oil spill clean up....might actually have some merit

this place of land is too stupid to solve even simple problems anymore.

I give up hope.

From Bush to Obama to whoever is next I don't see any good significant changes coming anytime soon.
 
This sounds like a great idea and all, but how would this stop the broken drill/pipe on the ocean floor from leaking more oil?
 
LOL! Billions spent trying to clean this shit up for weeks and it all could have been cleaned up with straw...I for one dont see a single flaw with giving this method a go...its cheap, clean, and highly renewable! Will it ever be used? Fuck no.
 
Well, some marines I work with suggested dropping a 2,000 pound World War 2 bomb into the leak and plug it up that way.

Let's see, he used of 1/4 lb hay to soak up a half-cup of oil, and with the leak spewing between 40,000 and 150,000 barrels per day, we only need.. uh.. about 9.8 gazillion fuck-tons of hay to just dump in the ocean somehow.
 
Will it work with crude? It'll need a hell of a lot of hay. And this will only skim what's on top. As far as I know, the oil "veins" that run in the water stretch a good ways below the surface.

One of the solutions I've heard of is using explosive (possibly nuclear) to somehow stop the leak. Apparently the Russians have done it a few times with success.

probably make it worse. right now they've got what, 3 or 4 known jets? i'd guess explosives would generate cracks in the surrounding rock -> wide area hemorrhaging oil.
