Hello everyone, this is Carlos - the author of the redneck neighbor page.
First I want to thank all the people who emailed expressing their support/disagreements of the web site. Erik, I wanted to email you but I goofed and deleted your email before I could reply.
The website was initially done for my family and friends to see. I never envisioned an international audience. I didn't think it was that interesting for people that didn't know me and didn't know all the other stuff going on with my neighbor. (Ie. all the illegal activity going on next door.... there are several instances that were intentionally left out of the page because the page was meant to be funny - besides I didn't want to acuse the guy of criminal activity on the net).
To the critics, I understand your point and I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Someone posted "how would carlos feel if he had a camera pointed at his house" (or something to that effect). The answer is - I would not like it, of course. However, I feel the guy deserved it. I wouldn't want a webcam pointed at my house if I had done nothing wrong. Besides there's a difference between a live camera versus some static images of "wrongdoing". Everyone else has mentioned all the crap the guy has done (the fires, the stealing, the parties, the fights) and why I took pics of some of it. The pictures were meant to document/support the story on the site. I didn't think people would believe the story to be true unless I had the pictures there. It was that bizarre (Ie. the one-legged-table for that rock - nobody would believe that thing). Besides, like I said earlier, the site was meant for my friends and they wanted to see some pictures.
I went through all the typical stages of issue-resolution with this guy (tried talking to him several times, neighbors talked to him, the county code enforcement people talked to him, they fined him, animal-control gave him warnings and fines, then they all gave up on him). So, there was nothing else I could do without going through great expense (sue him) and take the chance that I'd have to just suck it up in the end.
I also wanted you guys to know that I didn't take down the site because of it being posted here. As luck would have it, the site was simultaneoulsy posted on several sites this weekend (about.com, cruel.com, ilovebacon.com, metafilter.com, and some others) and I was getting hammered with email messages. Most messages were the "that was really funny" type but some were quite nasty. I guess that's a chance I took when I decided to put up a web site with my email address on it. However, I decided it wasn't a fight worth fighting. The site had been up since 1997 and it was much easier to pull the plug on it and avoid the hassle.
Thanks again.....
