Rediscovering bands like YES

Well I listen to a wide variety of music, anything from hiphop(Louis Logic most recently) to the likes of Guster and Ben Folds but recently came across the fun of the bargain bin of tapes in stores. My brother picked up a YES tape recently and now I am very much into their music... not only is it classic 80s but also has some pretty complex rythms. I am just wondering if anyone else has discovered anything they like recently that is not being shoved down their throats à là MTV?

Good find🙂 There bass player...cant remember his name....is one of the best. Kepp looking..if you like that, there is alot of other stuff you will probably like!

After Steely Dan had all the Grammy hoopla, I checked out some of their older stuff and I liked it quite a bit (I was only familiar with their bigger hits like "Reeling In the Years&quot😉. I also remembered how much I liked the Doobie Brothers recently.

My favorite type of music that is generally ignored by the MTV generation, though, is soul music. I worship Bill Withers and Marvin Gaye. 🙂

the only YES song i'm really familiar with is "Saving My Heart For You"

great tune...the verses sound kinda reggae-ish

Use Me by Bill Withers is THE song that gets me feeling very, very naughty in seconds flat!

Time to crank up my best of Bill Withers CD...

<< There bass player...cant remember his name >>

Chris Squire

He is one of the top 10 bass players in the world. A musical genius.

Isla: I don't know why Bill Withers doesn't get more recognition, I mean look at his songs, they are classic! Lovely Day, Lean On Me, Just the Two of Us, Use Me, Ain't No Sunshine, and Grandma's Hands are my favorites. 🙂 His voice is just awesome.

Actually Yes is a 70s band, they peaked in '72-74 and were gone by '80. My faviorite Yes albulm is Fragile. This is a classic piece of acid rock that is a must have. Find a copy and enjoy (it is on CD).

Harrald> thanks> I had an epiphony and remembered his name, but you beat me to it🙂 He is one reason I bought a bass, he is also one reason I sold it.😉

Nazareth is back together and touring....I was at the AC/DC concert when I found out they were coming to town....I gotta get tickets for that.

OWNER Of A LOANLY HEART!!

U know that one right 🙂

They both rock too

"Ohhhhh Love Hurts" "and YOU shooook me alllll Night Looong!"

Ahhhh.....YES is a wonderful band! "90125" (why do I always want to type 90210?) is arguably their best album as far as radio hits go. Other great albums include "Fragile" and "Classic Yes".

I wish was tuned into the music before I got to college.

Van Halen is always good. 5150 and Best Of albums are a good place to start.

REO Speedwagon. Their The Hits album is really something special.

Duran Duran. This 80s pop band came back in the early 90s. I actually caught them at a concert summer of 1999. Good stuff.

Chicago. These guys have been around for a long time. Truly musicians of the highest order. Seen them in concert in 1999 & 2000. Hope to see them summer 2001.

Dream Theater - good stuff. Tight cohesiveness & complex rhythyms.

Seems like the 80s hairbands all a one or two hit wonder. My roommate is seriously into Motley Crue.

Extreme another tight band. Nuno Benntencourt(?) sounds like a graduate of EVH guitar school yet he definatly has his own style and ability.

Fortunetly the radio stations around here actually play some of the older stuff. There are two dedicated 80s stations and another 70s, 80s, 90s station.
