RedHat Linux 7.1 Installation HELP!!

road

Banned
I am having problems installing 7.1, no matter what option I select it
hangs. I am booting from the CD-ROM and everything seems okay until it hits

/sbin/loader

After that the screen turns blue and it hangs with the message
"failed to read /modules/module-info
Install exited abnormally..."

In expert mode it prompts for several options (driver disk, language etc..)
up to where the installation is to be carried out from ie.

Local CDROM
Hard drive
NFS Image

On selecting CDROM the prompt box dissapears leaving a blue screen and it
hangs with the message
"failed to read /modules/module-info
Install exited abnormally..."

Can anybody help?

Are you using an actual copy of Redhat or a burnt CD? Never seen that error, but it appears as if it having a problem reading a certain file. My guess is that the media is bad or Redhat doesn't like your CDROM. Some things to try:

1) Start the install on another CD-ROM/Machine. If it works, you've eliminated bad media.

2) Disconnect the CD-ROM and begin the installation via the boot floppy. See if you can get to the same errors with the CD-ROM disconnected. If so, then it's not a problem with your CD-ROM or media.

Of course this is only a first step, but you should try to eliminate some variables...

Did a quick search of your problem on deja.com and here is a thread with a very similar problem to yours. Did you use burnt CDs to make these disks? If so, I would follow the advice of these people and do an MD5 checksum test on the iso file...

I'm using the 2 CD's I burnt from the image files I got from RedHat.com. The images were called:

seawolf-i386-disc1.iso
seawolf-i386-disc2.iso

I dont have a boot floppy, how do I make one?

Thanks 🙂

CHeck those files to see if they match the files on ftp.redhat.com (or a good mirror, ftp.orst.edu works for me). Gantry has the right idea. But, I just look at the filesizes, and see if they are exactly the same.

Thanks you guys!! That was the problem, the iso on the FTP(cmu.edu) I got it it from wasn't complete. I got it from RedHat themselves and it works like a charm now. 🙂 Yippee!
