Hey all,
Can someone help me get dual monitors working in RHEL4?

I have a radeon9600pro w/one DVI & one VGA output. So far I've been able to get dual displays working without the ATI driver (so basically no 3D acceleration :() by screwing w/the xorg.conf file.

BUT once I install the ATI driver, then everything dies. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but using ati's fglrxconfig script fails. The 2001FP (DVI) is good, but somehow it wants to send digital(????) signal over an analog output...either way, the 1905FP just displays: "1: Analog Input \n Cannot Display This Video Mode".

Ack! So annoying... Thanks in advance,
-Eric

edit: With ATI's fglrxconfig thing, I've tried doing auto-detect on both monitors, DVI on both, CRT on both, and DVI one the primary (2001FP) and CRT on the secondary, just to try all the options. (There's no option that says VGA/analog...I'm assuming that CRT is equivalent.)

I don't want to sound like an ass, but you pay for enterprise so you get support to answer questions like these dont you?

They probably don't support ATI's screwy crap drivers.

How can you pay for support and have the support team say "sorry, we don't support that"?

"Here, you buy this from us and we'll give you technical support... for only the things we choose to support - that we don't tell you about up front"

*please excuse this if they actually say what they will/will not support.

They support the stuff they sell you. If you need support for Norton software, would you call Microsoft? No, you call Norton. He should contact ATI support instead, it's their software that is causing the problem. He got it working with the software RHEL came with.

lol I didn't pay for RHEL4. My university bases it's computing network (called Athena) on RedHat releases (Athena is like..essentially a heavily modified RedHat that works w/our AFS & allows secure access to all the schools volume licensed software, in addition to other stuff). The current system runs on RHEL3, but an upgrade is coming soon. Either way I was advised to use RHEL4 and switch to Athena when the new release is ready (apparently RHEL4 and AFS don't get along).

Sooooo being a Linux moron, I didn't realize that you typically have to pay for RHEL4. So if no one wants to/can help me here, I'll go bug my school about it. Lord knows if they support ATI drivers (apparently the linux community hates ATI's linux drivers) or if they'll want to help me setup dual head :/

If it works with the X drivers, why worry about getting ATI's crappy drivers to work?

What errors are you getting with ATI's craptastic drivers?
