Redhat 9 and WineX

I'm trying to install WineX on RH9. I downloaded from the cvs and then, from the directory to which the cvs source was downloaded, ran ./tools/wineinstall as root. After spending a good time configuring, compiling, etc, it asked me a few quetions regarding registry installation. After answering them, it compiles another thing or two for a couple seconds, and then gives me the following message:

wine: chdir to /root/.wine/wineserver-localhost.localdomain : No such file or directory
Registry install failed.

Any idea what might be wrong?

I have the smae problem as you do

and when the next time you install the package, it will tell you that it is currently installed.

And another point is that, you cannot uninstall it through the rpm package (or i dunno how).

Redhat 9 is getting complicating for me....

I wanna use though, but it is just too hard to install and run the program

it seems pretty obvious to me, maybe too obvious... it couldn't change the directory because it does not exist... either feed the installation program an option that is valid or create the directory if that is where you want it...

WineX non-commercial version pretty much sucks, it has none of the fun stuff anyway, try original wine instead or buy it...

It does have functional diretx libraries, but it is really difficult to get it working properly. Sometimes (during major revisions) the cvs can become quite broken. The best thing to do is to follow the tutorials at this site. And to make good usage of the examples that are included in the cvs itself. Oh and you could buy it, but I know how hard it is to make 'net purchases without using a credit card. For those folks use cvs or mow some grass and beg

To uninstall it all you have to do is type make uninstall at the prompt. In a few weeks this won't be much of an issue because wine is starting advanced directx stuff to itself as well. If you have any questions feel free to post to AT or the forums at frank's corner.

There are libraries that are not included in WineX that will make it hell to configure, I would rather put up with the dualboot to win98SE than try to run it...

Well..... What can I say? Both wine and winex are still *extremely* developmental. Since you were a subscriber though, most of your games would be easy to check out by going to the compatibility list on their site. Sure, its not too many games (compared to all of them available) but its not as little as it was a year ago and its certainly more than existed a year before that. If a game is supported then post to the boards and wait. Oh and don't forget that google is your freind when trying to get a game working under linux. Its amazing what a search for "the name of the game" and "winex" will produce.
