Redhat 7 upgrade question

Im really new to Linux. I purchased the Professional version of 6.2 when rebates were offered. Can I upgrade to 7.0 with the Standard (cheap) version and not loose any of the added stuff that came with pro version? Also, will the added SW for Pro ver. 6.2 work with 7.0? THX for helping a newbie. I want to get the added support that comes with 7.
 
I wouldn't want to burst your bubble and tell you that the allegedly "Pro" version of RH is just a scam..but anyways, you can safely upgrade RH 6.2 with RH 7.0. The installation process will scan through the installed packages that it recognizes and can upgrade and will do so. If it finds packages that it can't upgrade and/or understand, from the "Pro" install perhaps, it will leave it alone.

Before jumping to RH 7.0, however, I would suggest that you wait till RH 7.1 is released and go there(if it is stable). RH 7.0 had some blatantly broken stuff and needed a few patches to be used without any problems. I'm hoping that RH 7.1 has all of these things fixed..Regards
 
blatantly broken... you mean like how you can't compile a kernel? 😡 you have to use kgcc (by editing the Makefile). And no matter what I do, glibc2.2 wont compile and install
 
Kgcc is only needed for 2.2 kernels. The current version of 2.96 RH has compiles 2.4 nicely. It compiles everything else ok too so far.
 
CTho9305, yeah..that's what I was talking about..🙂 I was kinda shocked to see Redhat slip-up so badly on a release..from my experienec with using their software from the 2.0 days, they've been pretty reliable about these things..Regards
