so whats new in it? should i upgrade?
why it seems all the good distibutions are so out of date? i think the 2.2.16 kernel is very old, and there is a new xfree and proubably loads of stuff i dont know (i am a windows user, usinglinux just for fooling around)
is there any other good distr. which is btetter updated?
and why cant linux parts be upgraded more easily 🙁
 
I've been using Linux almost exclusively (also Solaris and HP-UX) for many, many years. Used to be I swore by Slackware. Appealed to me; it used to be pretty vanilla and you had to know what you were doing... but that ensured that you knew exactly what you were doing! 😉

Anyway, I've recently been mostly happy with SuSE on my Intel machine. The distribution seems to be partially broken for Alpha. :| But it's a good package-managed distro which is fairly up-to-date but also stable.

I'm not a RedHat fan. But for reasons that are becomming less and less valid. I still think that you're better off if you understand what you're doing when you're making changes to your system, but if you are intersted in just fooling around and want an up-to-date system, you could do worse than SuSE.
