I was wondering how often does redhat come out with a version of linux. I'm going to purchase a book called Red Hat Linux 7.2 Unleashed. I don't have any experience with the os. I know most of the time os vendors change there os's its normally not a big differece from the previous version.

if you're going to buy a book on linux or any other *nix, i HIGHLY recommend the o' reilly series. they're very good books. that and manual pages helped me learn all i know today about linux (which still isn't much). but i'm getting there.

RH 7.3 beta is already out...

Just get "Running Linux" or even "The Linux CookBook"...

and if you're poor like i am you can always check out the local library. my library has a pretty decent selection, although i did give them a list of o' reilly stuff to pick up and they're doing a good job at supplying me. :D

Half Price Books is awesome for this kinda stuff, see here.

They also carry ful boxed sets - I got SuSE 7.0 Professional, with DVD, 6 CDs. and 3 manuals for under $20.

BookPool and Fatbrain have good prices also. Im in the process of learning Linux and would be lost if it wasnt for Mark Minasi and his "Linux for WindowsNT/2000 Administrators" and "Linux in a Nutshell" by O'Rielly.

I don't know what to make of it either, but if you buy two items, you get free shipping. There's not much to lose.

Here's the regularly priced item [shop.barnesandnoble.com] where the ISBN matches that at Amazon.com

The ISBN for the clearance item doesn't come up at Amazon.com.

Thanks guys I decided to purchase Linux for WindowsNT/2000 Administrators since I already know windows 2000 and nt ,and I decided to purchase Red Hat Linux 7.2 Unleashed by sams. I want to learn redhat because it is actually the only version of linux from what I can see thats actually standarized most companies in the united states normally use redhat.
