Redemption period for a domain

There's a domain that I've wanted for a few years now and it randomly didn't get updated this last time around. The WHOIS shows that it's in a redemption period, but it's said that for a few months now.

Has anyone gone through this before or know how long I have to wait? Is there anything I can do other than pay one of the domain sites to squat on it when it becomes available?
