Reddit quarantines "The Donald"

Violating their own rules. How many times have these people attacked liberals for disrespecting police over the years. Oh, a Republican wants violence against the police? Fuck the police then!

What does this mean?

On the surface it's mostly symbolic. Posts there won't aggregate out to front page posts nor will it show up in searches. It also costs them custom image banners and revenue from ads in there. I think you also lose mobile access to it.

It's also a 1st step in outright banning a subreddit. It's basically probation and saying "clean up, or cease to exist".

so it's like double secret probation?

Basically, you can't see their subreddit unless you're signed in, with a registered email linked to your account. They also lose custom code for their community. It's not a ban, but it certainly limits the subreddit's reach.

And like vi edit said, it's a shot across the bow. T_D has to clean up its act ASAP or face a permanent ban. I mean, a permanent ban of that subreddit (not to mention anyone who's been subscribed to it) would benefit all of humanity, but I'll take them adhering to some basic standards as a consolation prize.

now their sh*tposters will be spread out instead of mostly contained

Actually that'd be a great punishment - if you're a subscribed member to the sub, you're prevented from posting anywhere else. I realize that might harm some innocent lurkers and bystanders, but that's the price they pay for flying too close to the sun.

i've been using masstager for a while now and it's such an amazing extension for redddit, it highlights users if they post to certain subreddits (you can define which subreddits to fit your needs but the_D is on there defaulted)

There is also an automod bot that will automatically delete anyone's post if they have ever posted in T_D. I know that several large subreddits use it as a kind of shadow ban.

ooooooooooooooh that's pretty nice. I gotta try it out.!
Admittedly though I tend to use reddit on mobile as I go to/from work or as I'm watching TV or something.

Yeap - I've heard of that one. Too damned funny. I love social justice. (call me a SJW all you want)

Nah. Reddit, as long as you stay out of places like T_D, is a great resource for virtually anything
Agreed , there's great community moderated content there, the layout just keeps getting worse imo though. They are cracking down on a lot of subreddits, no more breaking the rules....(see the sports streaming subeddits)

The Donald was fantastic in 2016. Not so much since. But damn in the last few months of the election it was ground zero, nothing will ever best that.

The comments at the link are great! One T_D member calling this their "Pearl Harbor" and another calling it "election interference"...lol! They are also calling for Reddit to be reported to the Federal Electoral Commission.

It's like watching a bunch of idiots in rowboats furiously rowing away with only the right oar.
