RALEIGH, NC-JANUARY 24, 2005-Epic Games, a leading developer of cutting-edge 3D technology and games, today announced the grand prize winners of the ?$1,000,000 NVIDIA Make Something Unreal®? mod-making contest.

The grand prize for Best Mod is awarded to Red Orchestra, an immersive combined arms infantry and armored vehicle combat simulation set on the eastern front of World War II. The development team behind the winning entry receives $50,000 in cash and a coveted Unreal Engine commercial license worth approximately $350,000.

No big shock. They were head and shoulders above the rest. The only other mods I played that made me think I was playing a different game were air buccaneers, which sucked, and alien swarm, which got old.

I don't think it's like any other WW2 game. It's much different, gameplay wise.

I don't get it. The prize doesn't seem to match the name of the contest.

$1,000,000 over 4 rounds with multiple contests.
There have been cash prizes/computer prizes given to winners/runners up of previous rounds of the competition, so overall the value of the prizes is $1,000,000.
The main prize is "only" worth $400,000 though ($50,000 cash and $350,000 engine).

Well I suppose the engine could be worth more if they actually make a game out of it, but then again it could be worth nothing if they do nothing with it. I'd rather take the $400k in cash :)

I hope a publisher picks them up, its practically money in the bank. All they would have to do is say "look at counterstrike, put the mod on a disk and charge $20".
