Red lines appearing when watching DVD's, new and old

this just started a few weeks ago. when i play DVD's i am seeing red lines on my TV. they look just like if you held your hand up to a laser scanner. it doesnt happen through out the whole movie, just when there is something in the image that i guess reflects the laser (just a guess), but it happens in the same part of the movie.

any ideas? bad disk, bad player?

If it happens on both new and old DVD's, then it's the player

I've heard good and bad things about those laser cleaners, it's kinda hit and miss. You could try it

but it doesnt happen on all my movies. for example, i just got American History X and at the begining where they are showing the credits, the picture is fine, Except for when they show text for who made the movie. those parts are obscured by red lines.

all my kids disney movies are fine, along with other movies in my collection (except for a few). maybe bad batch of blank DVD's that the company burned the movie to?

i thought they added those to discourage people making digifilms of movies in theatres, about 1-2 years ago
