In case you haven't noticed...
Crucial doesn't make the chips
Infineon doesn't make the finished product (to my knowledge)
So, how can you even compare the two?? let alone say something so broad as
"The Crucial CL2 SDRAM is not even close to the Infineon CL3 in term of stability and performance," when so called Infineon memory could be made by half a dozen different manufacturers using half a dozen boards...
Personally I would prefer to go with Crucial since it is a major brand name marketing of Micron Technology. Good memory, also good support (from what I understand..)

I'm sticking with the Crucial memory, as well. Not worth risking it. Where are the infineon PCBs from?

If anyone has received the Infineon from Axion, what are the chip markings and how is it performing in your system? Thanks!

Hmmm....

Crucial is a wholly owned subsidery of Micron Electronics. They use Mciron chips in their momory modules.

Your knowledge is faulted. Infineon makes all sorts of memory products. You just need to go to their web site to look. Since you have not, here is the link to Infineon Technologies PC133 SDRAM Module page.

Besides Infineon, I have used SDRAM modules from Mushkin, Apacer and PNY using Infineon chips. They ALL performed beyond my expectation. My conclusion is that SDRAM module manufacturers who are will to pay for the high quality Infineon chips usually use the chip on their high end products.

I based my comment on my personal experience with the products. I am the first to admit it and said so in my post. It is sad that you are trying to make comments without even knowing the facts.

Infineon makes SDRAM and I own them.

Something else to remember,

All microelectronics have a yield factor associated with their manufacture. Infineon 7.5ns mem chipshave a significant span of yield...mushkin uses the highest yield chips available for rev3. Compuwiz pretty much guarantee's the Dimm's he sells to 150+ 2-2-2, who knows what the axiontech ram can do. I've seen the newer 128MB Infineon modules get 157-158 2-2-2, but I've also seen older 256MB Infineon that can't do 140 2-2-2. However, as the manufacturing process matures the yields improve...so it reasonable to assume that the newer chips and thus dimm's using them will perform well as long as the dimm's are manufactured well.

Most of time you get what you pay for IMO...

thermite88, you're right.

HYS 64V32220GU-7.5-C N/A PC133 256MB (32M x 64) 2 bank SDRAM DIMM
HYS 64V32300GU-7.5-A N/A PC133 256MB (32M x 64) 1 bank SDRAM DIMM
HYS 64V32300GU-7.5-C N/A PC133 256MB (32M x 64) 1 bank SDRAM DIMM Q67100-Q3958

what's the diff between 323300GU-7.5-A and 32300GU-7.5-C?

so who's selling infineon chips on infineon dimm?
Is Axiontech?

Kingofcomputer,

I have no first hand experience with the Axion Tech stick yet. I heard that they are good people. I just ordered one 256MB stick from them last night so that I can answer these questions:

(1) Is it Infineon stick or third party stick using Infineon chips.

(2) How does it performed compared to other Infineon based sticks.

I will post again when I get the answers.

This RAM can hit 150Mhz with the right chipset. I was able to run my PIII 500 FCPGA chip at 750Mhz with this RAM. I was even able to run it at CAS2 up to 133Mhz.

Good stuff, great price.

My order was shipped on 2/26 by UPS and was not received as of 3/3.

Latest price drop to $79.95 per 256MB.

<< Have you tested higher or can it not do anything higher? >>

well i attached a coolmaster HS to my northrbidge and now i can run at 110 FSB w/o probs. I can run 112 FSB for a couple hours then it crashes.

So I can say this RAM can run at at 147 cas 2 on fast setting (turbo locks it up). maybe 149 (don't know if the crash at 112 FSB is due to ram or hot northbridge. i'm thinking northbridge)

I use both Crucial (128MB PC133 CAS2) and 2 64MB Infineon chips from PNY, and both of them will go up to 144mhz at CAS2 (my processor can't handle more than that). Just because the Infineons are marketed at 7.5ns doesn't mean they can't overclock to CAS2 :D The deal looks hot to me, my friend buys from Axion all the time and loves them.

Yep, it's generic manufacturer ram, with Infineon chips. A friend got two sticks on Friday.

Basically, guys, right now there IS NO BETTER DEAL than the Crucial 256meg pc133 222 part available for $89.24 delivered.

I just got two of these Crucial badboys and mine run cas2 at 148mhz NO PROBLEMO on a kt7a! :)

Also, their cas3 part (the one mentioned above from the old deal with Staples PM for ~$79.xx delivered) does 143mhz at cas2 in the kt7a!

WEWT! :)

I don't know why there's any question. Crucial is the way to go for compatibility and value, hands down.

I received my order from Axion today.

The SDRAM is identical to the one that I purchased from Compuwiz two months ago. The circuit boards are the same down to the silkscreen prints on them. The chips are identical except the manufacturing dates. They look different from the Infineon sticks that I had before, but are top quality 6-layers boards. The silkscreen said "POWMEM" on them.

In preliminary test, the two sticks had no difference in performance or stability and work fine together in CL2. Most of us who purchased from Compuwiz know that this is top quality stuff.

DISCLAIMER: I compared only one stick from Compuwiz with one from Axion. It is NOT any proof that they are from the same distributor. But they are from the same manufacturer for these two specific purchases that I made.

Whether you purchase from Compuwiz or Axion, this is the best deal in memory for now. See my earlier post about comparison with Crucial.

This is mild. What's hot is the Kingston PC100 ram that were made with Infineon chips. I got 3 128mb sticks for about $30 a pop....Tested them to run 143 Cas 2. And I got these a 2 months ago from buy.com

so, is it using generic 4-layer PCB instead of 6-layer ones?

If it is identical to whatever CompuWiz sold before, does it mean the stuff is manufactured by Infineon Tech? or it is still some generic dimm's with good chips?

Withput cutting the dimm in pieces, how can someone idenify if it's manufacture on 6-layer PCB?

Does the SPD show the manufacturer's name?

Thanks

its not that hot, but decent, Compuwiz is selling infineon rams around that price also.

What makes this a hot deal.

(1) You pay about the same as you would purchase from Compuwiz1 or instarain.

(2) You get the same high quality product as from them.

(3) You deal with an vendor of good reputation and get lifttime warranty.

(4) The product is in stock.

instarain is selling this RAM now. You should consider ordering from him first. He is cheaper and I always support fellow trader at Anandtech.

Infineon for sale by instarain

Axion is a good supplier when instarain runs out of stock.
