I downloaded Rad Hat 8.0, the CDs check out fine, and the install seemed to progress just fine. I rebooted my computer and I get a message
"hda: Bad CRC"

I have reformatted the HD in my windows machine and it works fine.

RH Machine:
P ][ 233
128 megs sdram
Diamond Viper ][ video
3Com 10/100

Is there a "super duper" hard drive formatting option in RH? If so, you might want to try it.

The drive that I am using had Win98 on it before I started the install. I had RH remove all partitions and start from scratch.

I also installed the "Workstation" version since I wanted the programming tools installed.

Ok. See if there is an option to check the drive in the RH install. If there is, try it and see what happens.

During the install I did not see anything to check and see the drive has any bad sectors. I might just try another install in the morning.

I think what n0c is trying to suggest is a "bad block" check on formatting the partitions. You should see a check box somewhere in the partitioning process asking about this ... might even be a seperate screen in the install process. I don't remember.

Are you partiioning manually, or letting RedHat do it automatically? If the latter, that might explain why you haven't seen the option. I've never done it that way though.

I have been letting RH do all of the work since this is my first Linux install. I'll try doing the partitioning myself and see if that works better.

thanks.
