Hey -
OK this is messing me up bigtime. I recently went to upgrade from Red Hat 6.2 to Red Hat 7.2 because I wanted to use some different packages that don't work with 6.2... I got a newer (faster) computer to do all this on too so I was really happy. I installed 7.2 no problem. Everything *appeared* fine. All services were up and running, Samba worked no prob, telnet, ssh, and (it seemed) ftp. I did all the testing from the internal network, all was good.
Then, from outside the network later, I attempted to ftp to the box. Nothing. Telnet works ok, ssh works OK, but not FTP. I didn't install the firewall packages for 7.2, so I figured it might be my router. But lo and behold, I change the few settings to point everything back at the old RH 6.2 box, and works no problem. Hmm OK.
So I have been troubleshooting this thing for days now, and nothing works. I've reinstalled with many different options, tried installing firewall and configuring it to allow all ports, nothing. The only other -symptom- is that on RH 6.2, my router was able to determine the hostname. For some reason, the 7.2 machine only reads the MAC addy of the NIC, and doesn't seem to find the hostname. This is fine for now, but I intend on setting another 7.2 machine up, and I'd like to be able to tell which is which "at a glance". Also, thinking the problems might be related. So I sit pondering... hmm....
Help?
Ken
