Red eye problem with pictures of pets

Does it help to take the photo at an angle vs. head-on? Any suggestions?

Pets have a habit of looking at the camera, so whatever angle you're standing at doesn't matter if their eyeballs are looking at you. I think the only real-time solution would be to use an ambient flash (like professional photographers set up). Any Photoshopper worth his salt could fix it in post though.

red eye reduction double flash? pets have big ass pupils though, probably much harder not to get a red eye. esp dogs. its why they can see like 4x better in low light and have sh*t close up vision
