I don't partake in Red Bull unless vodka is involved, and even then it's a rarity (usually involving long days/weekends of drinking). If the cost and calories weren't so prohibitive, I might drink it more often.

Sorry to bring up the topic - but there is that ol' Alcohol is a downer (depressant), and redbull is an upper (suppressant) - I've heard it's dangerous. Thoughts, comments, research?

Don't like Red Bull at all. I much prefer Monster for flavor (most of their flavors). It'd be great if they could make a Monster soda without all the energy crap in it, because IMO it just tastes good.

Read the ingredients list...it's a little more complicated than that...but your point is still valid. The margins will be huge.

Not much more complicated. Sure, some B vits, other "natural" ingredients...but none are expensive at all and are in such microscopic amounts that they're almost useless, just added for selling/marketing. It's almost exclusively the caffeine that provides the kick.

energy drinks are harmful beyond belief; drink at your own - guaranteed - risk.

I've never had any issues beyond normal drinking.

The entire reason why Red Bull is so successful is its marketing, and plastering their name all over everything (sports teams, race cars, daredevil stunts, etc.) is a key component of their marketing.

There's nothing that really differentiates Red Bull from other energy drinks, just as there's no real difference between Coke, Pepsi, and minor soft drink brands (outside of subjective personal preference). It's all in the marketing, and that's something Red Bull has done really well since the beginning.

They've been around since 1987? Damn! Took them a long time to catch on. They do have a great unique taste to them. Monster/Rockstar and 5 hour energy are all ewww.

I use berry Zipfizz myself (then grape when I get tired of berry). Only $1 per canister, add it to a water bottle, shakey shakey.

I think RedBull tastes like Smarties as if you crushed them up and liquified them.

all you suckers are falling for marketing. take a coke, put some extra random crap in it, call it SUPER EXTREME ENERGY FORMULA! and charge twice as much for it.

Wikipedia says 4.6 billion cans sold worldwide in 2011. That's pretty impressive, but I wonder how much coke sells. I have a feeling it's probably at least 10x that.

But the cans of redbull are about 1/2 the size and they charge you twice as much.

Their shipping costs per can are much lower too, due to their size.

it's marketing but they've done a lot to promote some of the "extreme" sports. A lot of other companies aren't willing to take a risk. Awesome for those sports.

Good example is the Travis Rice's Supernatural contest.
http://www.redbull.com/cs/Satellite/en_INT/Event/Red-Bull-Supernatural-021243151773398

The brainchild of snowboarding icon Travis Rice, Red Bull Supernatural is a first-of-its-kind backcountry competition designed to challenge, then crown the best all-around snowboarder on the planet. The event brings together today’s best video part stars alongside the kings of the contest circuit for a one-day freestyle competition. With three distinct sections of the course designed to both show off each athlete’s strength and various disciplines of the sport, Red Bull Supernatural aims to serve-up a run beyond anyone’s wildest dreams.
This ultimate snowboarding run is located within the 32,000-acre tenure of Baldface Lodge, one of Canada’s preeminent backcountry snowcat operations. Deep in the Kootenay Mountains of British Columbia, the 45+ degree slope nicknamed “Scary Cherry” is host to over 80 man-made features which took a crew of loggers five months to construct. Once snow accumulates on the features, a series of tree-line jumps, pillow lines, and more will emerge in the upper section of the course challenging even the most seasoned backcountry riders. The middle section will be host to an extra wide super-kicker where fresh powder landings will be kept intact so all the riders can throw huge, progressive tricks. And in the lower section of the course, a jib and rail garden will provide the final on-hill playground.

Another example is the red bull air race championship. That event is pretty nutty.

Red-Bull is weird. How are they REALLY at the top of the energy drink sales when their cans are THAT fucking small - yet still THAT fucking expensive. I would sooo much rather get a Monster, 2x the amount for less than 1 8oz redbull.

Marketing. Monster doesn't nearly have the same marketing budget. A few Ken Block videos? Red bull launched a man from outer space into New Mexico, and is plastered on every sporting event in the world, literally.

I wouldnt mind getting in on a Red Bull IPO...

Nasty tasting shit. You spend $3 per tiny can for. Probably costs them 20 cents to manufacture. Then someone decided to mix it with yagermeister. Who'd a fucking guessed that nasty + nasty = nasty.

And one of the things I meant to bring up as opinions poured out was that between this (Air Race) and Formula 1, that is a crap ton (that's a lot) of $$$$$$$$$$ like to the power of 12 to sponsor and maintain.

Did you know that they actually tear down and rebuild that entire makeshift airport for EVERY Air Race event?

Consider how much money it costs just to allocate the resources for Air Race, then think about having to move an ENTIRE FRIGGIN AIRPORT!!!

And I think a championship winning F1 team probably runs somewhere around the 25-50 million dollar range......PER FRIGGIN CAR!!!.....and that's not even taking into account the "other" team called Toro Rosso!!!

You think they make a buck or two? :)
