FWIW- we had an "all-hands" meeting today at the CDC regarding emergency preparedness. It was specifically stated that we are to report to work even if the Ridge-Rainbow-Threat-O-Meter goes to red.

they will not arrest me, I have special clearance, parents own a medical transportation company so public safety would be jeopardize if I or my parents couldn?t go outside!

So, let me get this straight. You are bold enough to dare them to arrest you since you think they're violating your constitutional rights, but then you'd be cowardly enough when they followed through to say "neener, neener, neener! I have special clearance!"?

Now *that's* sticking up for your rights.

correct i will declare i have special clearance if they decided to try to arrest me.

if you said that to me id kick your a$$ then tell you to get back to work

If martial law were declared, it would likely be for our protection. The last thing that the authorities would need to deal with, in case of dire national emergency, would be a bunch of people, out on the streets - clogging up the relief effort, looting, or trying to flee.

For the Poli Sci student who so confidently stated that there was no mention of martial law in the Constition, you are correct -there is no explicit mention of "martial law" in the document. Article I, §9 permits the suspension of habeas corpus in certain circumstances - which is essentialy what martial law is.

If it comes down to martial law, perceived violations of our constitutional rights are the least of our concerns.

it says "The privilege of the write of habeas corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion the public safety may require it." So unless we have rebelion against our goverment or we are invaded they can't suspend it.

Isla, moonbeams are solar powered. I mean, uh, that they power the fillings in my teeth. I don't need a radio.

LOL!

And
Tallgeese, good idea. ;)

As for me, we've already gone over the procedure at school if there is some kind of emergency during school hours. It was like my second day at work and a faculty meeting was called just to go over what was expected of us.

I found it utterly depressing.

I thought a Red alert was where somebody warns me that big oaf, Dawn, is going to make some disparaging remark about the beauty and poetic intricacy of my prose as it reflects my rarefied intellect.

I wondered what that loud bang I just heard was.

You do realize that czar is an actual title in many of our government's position, right? link

There are quite a few position that are referred to as a czar.

While you are out helping, can you see if you can find a 17" LCD? I could use another.

The plans of the Illuminati are progressing nicely. We will soon be living in an iron-fisted dictatorship, thinly veiled under the guise of "protection". Soon, terror alerts will be used as an excuse to implement martial law throughout our cities. We will be forced to carry permanent identification which cannot be falsified (some sort of "mark" maybe?) in order to go out of our houses during these alerts. Next, we will be unable to purchase essentials (food, medical supplies, etc.) without presenting this identification. This will once again be disguised as a protection scheme for us. Soon, the government will cease holding elections for officials, as it would take too much time and distract our leaders from managing the war against terrorism. We will accept this at first, and suddenly realize that we are no longer able to elect our president, who has been in office for more than his term. The stock market will crumble, forcing everyone to rely on the government for basic essentials. The war will carry on for years, we will continue to provoke attacks against other nations in the name of homeland security. We will begin to question who the real enemy is, but by that time it will be too late. The Beast will be in full control of the US, and well on its way to controlling the world.

Or, we may whip Iraq into submission within 2 weeks, and send all other terrorist groups running for mommy. Either way. :)
