OK,

Let me begin by saying that I look for the good in every PC Game. If it is faulted in script, but the gameplay is fun, no problem. I will play it and enjoy it.

But Red Alert 3?

I know its cartoonish, and it has tongue-in-cheek humor. The graphics are pretty, it runs smoothly, and yes, there are plenty of accent-wielding femmes with spectacular chest puppies. Blah blah Blah.

This game sucks. I played the Russian campaign this past weekend, and started on the Japanese campaign. The units are barely customizable, there is no upgrading, and as far as I'm concerned, the gameplay couldn't be more repetitive.

(Not to mention DRM.)

I'm glad I got it for 39.99 USD at Circuit City, and didn't pay a full 50, but come on, EA. You could have done a LOT better than this. I know it's not Supreme Commander, but it could have been a LOT better.

For years, Red Alert was my favorite RTS (I played it endlessly). It was over the top, but never repetitive.

One of the reasons RTS is so appealing to me is that it is never just "mindless" gaming. This game has no thought, and almost more importantly, no soul. Just a bunch of goofy machines bumping up against one another on the screen.

Ladies and gentlemen of the AT Gaming forum, especially those of you have bought the game and played it, your thoughts please.

Am I missing something here? Should I be enjoying it more than I am?

Please advise.

Cheers.

Well if people told you "yes you should" would you really enjoy it more? lol.

Nah RA3 is a pretty shallow game, ive finished all 3 campaigns and they were alright, the actors and helper AI were cool i liked those parts but you never get the feel you are part of a massive war, i mean 4 missions into the jap campaign and you have crushed the entire USSR? That cant be right. In RA1 and RA2 you had the map showing territorys before the missions and you felt that you were part of a massive battle. The storyline has gone to hell, the c&c storyline was awesome to begin with but got screwed up along the way and now its totally trashed by removing einstein which makes neither of the other RA games occurences actually happened anymore or they happened differently. Bleh its a mess lol. On the plus side there are different endings to each campaign, its not the same story twice over like in cnc3 which i felt was a cheap move to reuse maps and missions.

As for the gameplay again its OK, but nothing special. I dont like the new apoc at all, or those friggin choppers that can shrink your units. Its not as good as RA2 was, again another huge failing that cnc3 had was the maps, theres all freakin symmetrical, wheres the maps like "paris revisited"? Some of RA2 maps were symmetrical in design but the two sides to the map would be different in the game, like the "invasion confirmed" map.

Edit: Forgot to mention, some of the music is pretty cool, theres some remixed RA2 tracks in there that sound great. Its not RA1 great but its better than what EA would have managed alone without frank klepackis help.

Overall its better than cnc3 was (which imo sucked) but not as good as ra2. Also where was gina carrano? I only saw her once throughout the whole campaign and she didnt speak lol, what gives.

I've played it a bit. Maps suck, units seem less creative/fun than RA2's. Bland pc games this year for sure :(

I think the thing that made RA own was you could play a different game every day forever by modding the rules.ini :)

Farewell Westwood, you have truly been assimilated by your EA overlords.

Ummm, not really. Most of the former Westwood team is at Petroglyph now making even more craptastic games like Universe at War.
