Recurring Memory Dump Problem + some

Starting in December I started to have a problem with Windows 2000 Professional performing memory dumps and I would get a blue screen and a locked up computer. This happened after I installed a new 128MB stick of SDRAM to add to the 128 I already have. It kept on happening off and on. Then a new problem ocurred where my BIOS was not detecting my 2 IDE hard drives but was detecting my CDROM drives. I would get 2 very short warning beeps when the computer was detecting my RAM when the Hard Drive problem occurred.

To fix the problem I took out the new RAM and installed a new IDE Cable for my hard drives thinking that one might be defective. I also got a copy of Windows XP from my campus. I formatted my OS Partition on my HD and installed Windows XP.

I thought the problem was fixed, but today the memory dump occurred yet again and my BIOS wasn't able to detect my hard drives either! I had to reboot before it was able to locate them.

What could the problem be? I have had the same processor/mobo for 2+ years now and never had a problem. I even kept the same OS for those 2 years without ever reinstalling!

My computer specs are:
AMD Athlon 700MHz Slot A
MSI Mobo? Not too sure. Pretty sure it is MicroStar though
128MB SDRAM
64MB 4500 Prophet
3COM NIC
4+ year old 24x CD-ROM Drive
TDK CD-R burner
20Gig 7200 RPM Maxtor HD (2 yrs old)
40gig 5400 RPM WD Caviar (1 yr old)

I am getting the same thing happening to me!!! It seems to be getting worse and worse. I'm using XP Pro. I'm starting to think maybe its a PSU problem. I hope we can find some guru to help us out on this.

BTW...I did a search on MS support page and got THIS on memory dumps. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem with memory when I migrated from Me to XP. Try setting the RAM timing from 2T to 3T or decreasing the bus speed. That seemed to work for me. XP crashed every half hour or so before I did this, but I've only had one crash since.
