Recurring "Keyboard not found" problem

My rig is listed in my Sig. about a month ago, i got a keyboard not found error when booting my machine. I replaced the CMOS battery, and that seemed to solve the problem. This evening, I had the same problem. Removing the battery reset the CMOS and solved the problem again, but I'm concerned that this problem is recurring.

Do I need to go in and tune the BIOS after resetting the settings, or will it autodetect?

Can I? (Do I need to) update my BIOS?

is this recurring problem the sign of an impending HW failure? I'm hoping to get a little more life out of this box as it has the power I need.

Thanks

Its upto you if you want to update the BIOS. There is a chance that it will bork your system though. So ask yourself if your system is broken enough to risk it.

I've flashed my mb bios at least 100 times (different boards, not all mine) and have only had problems once.

The DFI nForce 4 froze on a bios flash, waited two hours and reset it, just told me it was a bad flash and I should insert a floppy to boot from it. Reflashed, worked fine.

If you haven't updated your bios, I would. They fix a lot of random issues sometimes. Though it does seem to be getting worse, which wouldn't really point to a bios flash (maybe though . . .). Your MB could be slowly dieing.

On my MSI nForce 3 Neo2, eventually it wouldn't boot when I moved the pc, I'd have to wait at least an hour to boot it up (wouldn't even power up).
