This training company rep came over today. He talks about that they are not only a company to offer courses but they offer ?support? and train you for jobs. They also have links with big HR firms.

I don?t think he was impressed that I was going to apply for other companies. I think he wanted me to think that his training courses were the ?key? to getting a job. I told him flat out the jobs I have been looking at do not require any professional certification. They just want a degree from a science/ computer background and for the person to be interested in IT/ Computers.

He had newspaper clippings of how Network admin guys were in need. Said CCNA guys pull in £35k-£70k. Had also another page with seriously inflated salaries.

I also mentioned I was going to apply to CISCO through their graduation scheme along with other companies (Accenture, EDS, Atkins etc)

He kept on asking me why I wanted to look in to learning for certificates. I told him repeatedly I am looking in to my options and that it adds something extra for me. It makes me different to the rest of the graduates. I was thinking what does he want from me? I'm just looking in to options that I have available to me.

He mentions the MCSE and I thought of telling him I think it is completely junk but I didn?t want to be rude so I kept that to myself.

Before he leaves I ask him about the cost of the CCNA course. He didn?t want to tell me. I asked him again and he said it was irrelevant.

Hope this was better.

Incoherent rubbish written the first time around.

Yup.

He came over. He was 15minutes (not impressed) and gave me his sales pitch. I'm not one to be 'sold' a product under pressure and BS. I'm good at talking and selling people stuff myself. He was talking about their training company and what they do. That they don't only provide a course but help you to get a job etc etc etc. Showed me some newspaper clippings etc etc.

I think he wasn't impressed that I was going to apply for various companies. They provide commercial training for qualifications CCNA/ MSCE etc.

He thinks graduate CCNA in England would get £35k and that it is a 'specialist' market. I don't think it is that specialist. Loved how he showed me a newspaper clipping from last year from a Computer Newspaper in October 2005 about a shortage of Network guys 😛. And this other page with SERIOUSLY inflated salaries 😛

I told him I was going to look at various companies and apply and that none of them asked for CCNA or MSCE qualifications. That they would train you up. Afterall I do have a degree in CS and can apply to them. I was going to tell him I thought the MSCE was a BS course but I thought I'd be nice and not.

The kicker was me telling him how I had checked out CISCO's graduate scheme via their own website.

To me it was just checking out my options out and seeing what companies offer. I didn't pay for him to come over and I certainly would not have done so.

In the end I think he was p!ssed. I asked about price of the course and he WOULD NOT TELL ME. WTF?! He wouldn't even tell me. What a load of BS. I asked him again and he said he would not tell me due to some interest or something.

Heres to finding a better job in a few months time

Cliffs:
Training recruitment guy comes 15mins late
Gives me his sales pitch and BS
BS about CCNA picking up £35-70k start
Talks about MCSE (I think is BS and wouldn't do it anyway)
Gives newspaper clippings of Network guys in demand from Computer newspaper
Gets pissy that I am going to apply to other companies graduate scheme
Gets more pissy when I say I am looking in to this to check my options out (recent grad in CS, working as Systems Test Engineer for past 8 months)
I ask price he won't tell me. He gets up tight.
I ask price again he won't tell me.
I'm not the right candidate for them
He leaves

PS Have you guys noticed that there are about a billion jobs for Recruitment guys? Guys looking to hire guys to hire other guys?! I certainly have in England.

Koing is looking to get CCNA or some other certification to help his career search.

Koing invites a sales rep for a computer training company to his home.

Sales rep tells Koing that having a CCNA would help him get a job starting at $60k to $120k. Koing thinks the Sales rep is BSing him.

Sales rep shows Koing newspapers ads for employers looking for network admins.

Koing tells sales rep he doesn't need a CCNA to apply for any of those jobs as he has a CS degree, and he thinks a company will pay for him to get his CCNA later.

The sales rep gets pissed as he sees Koing is not planning on buying any of his training.

Koing asks sales rep before he leaves how much the CCNA training is, but sales rep refuses.

How much math did you need to use to figure that ou?

I read the whole thing thinking it was about a Military Recruiter coming to his house. I've never had any nerds harass me into getting an MCSE.
