Recovery Console Problem

So, my system will not boot because It is missing a .dll file, and it asks me to restart and run the recovery console from the XP disc. I do so, hit 'r' and all that, and it asks me which install of windows i want to log on to. I type '1', and it asks me to "Type the Administrator Password." to my knowledge, there is no password for anything on this system. i don't know what to do about it. Does anyone have any idea what i need to do?

That's the recovery console, though it doesn't really sound like you have a clear direction on what you're looking to accomplish there.

1. What's the error message you get
2. Have you tried booting into safe mode and using system restore yet?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I think i mistook the 'recovery console,' expecting it to be something along the lines of 'system restore.' Thanks for the link. I ended up going into safe mode and running avg and spybot and it seemed to fix the issue. That doesn't mean i know wtf the recovery console is, lol.

Nice one hds.

Recovery console is usually used as a 'last ditch' stand against a format and reinstall.
Its a way to disable certain things, or enable certain progs, or check drives etc using the keyboard - a bit like the old DOS commands. (very similar in fact)
