Recovering data

My cousin's Sony Vaio laptop got messed up pretty bad, I'm guessing a virus of some sort. Basically, when it gets to the Windows loading screen, it'll sit for about 3-5 seconds, flash a BSOD for about half a second, then restart. Does this with every option - Safe Mode w/ or w/o Networking/Command Prompt, Last Known Good Configuration, and Normal.

So I'm wondering if there's an efficient way to recover data. I'm currently using Knoppix 5.1 and transferring data onto a USB drive. The problem lies in that some files are corrupted and won't transfer, but there isn't way to tell if it is until I start to transfer, in which it'll freeze and I have to close the windows and browse through again. Quite a bother when I'm trying to save about 5GB of music and pictures.

So, is there any way to just transfer them as it is even if it is corrupted and then figure out alter which ones are corrupted on Windows or something?

EDIT: Forgot to add, when I tried to install Windows, it detects no data on the drive. Haven't tried going through the Recovery DOS Prompt thing yet though.
