Recovering becomes difficult after over write on Hard disk?

I deleted some files, then replaced that folder with lots of tiny files just for the sake of testing.

Recuva and others were not able to find the file deleted after I put some files in that folder.

Does that happen with all recovery software? Over writing something else erases the traces of deleted file so quickly ?

Unless you are using SSD with wear leveling, most modern operating systems use first available space. So, a deleted file will free up space that can be re-used, rather than use unused space somewhere else on the drive.

And, that means the odds are in favor of the space being overwritten,

Any way to make operating system use space of locks which have been idle for long instead of blocks which were just cleared up?

I believe that is done by the SSD controller, not the OS. This all points out the need for constant backup of important data to independent media.
