Recovering a key from the registry after a quick reformat

Ok, so here is the situation... Basically I bought a 7800GTX/BF2 bundle a couple weeks back, and everything is registered with EVGA, but I moved into my new house over the past 3 days and my girlfriend either threw away or severely misplaced my cd sleeve(not the dvd) with the key on it. Problem being I just had to reformat today and didn't realize I was missing it until after the reformat. I submitted an inquiry with customer support asking for it and giving my serial # for the card that came with it, but i doubt that they kept track of which cdkey went with what card so I doubt they would reissue me a cdkey. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with retrieving this typpe of info from the registry. Hopefully I can get it otherwise I may have been shot in the foot here 🙁

I found somewhere as to where in the registry the CDkey could be found, but as for a program to recover and open the hive files I cannot find. Here is wehre the cdkey is found... it is in the registry folder as follows:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Electronic Arts/EA GAMES/Battlefield 2/ergc

Regedt32 will open the registry and with it you can go to that location.

I could use that if the previous registry hadnot been formatted. The thing is I must first recover the old registry entries, and how to do that I am not sure. I have been trying to use undelete programs but so far no luck.

You'd have to recover the entire drive, which would be doubtful after a format and re-install.

What you need to do is contact EA Games. SInce you have a valid CD you won't have any trouble getting the key replaced.

I keep all my CD keys in a database AND put them on the game CD (either write them with a sharpie or put a label on it).

If you've formatted, then the chances of getting your old hives back are slim as they've most likely been overwritten when you reinstalled.

sweet, I got contacted by the webmaster of EVGA and he said he read my post and decided to go Pro-bono on me and help my in my cause by giving me a new cd-key through evga rather than me having to pay $10 to EA to get a new key. I <3 EVGA, and pretty soon I'm stepping up to the 7800GTX KO through them for $50. Gotta love evga, their support is amazing.
