Recording FM radion on my computer?

I'm looking for someone with personal experience recording FM radio to the hard drive.

I've owned the Griffin Radio Shark for a few years but it really doesn't receive well and the reviews all back this up. It sucks.

Does anyone know of another USB type device that will allow me to record radio and do it batter than the Radio Shark? I'm mostly interested in FM. There are a couple of stations with late night programming that I want to record and check out later.

I have a tuner card but it's not FM and I don't want to replace it or use another slot just to get FM unless I have no other choice. I found a device the "FM Radio Recorder" but I can't find any info that says it's better than the RS.

Use some kind of portable radio, and run the Line out(or headphones) to the Line In on your sound card.

Not sure what you're trying to record, but if you can find some internet radio streams you're interested in, Streamripper (I recommend to use it with Winamp) is really a great program.

A regular home stereo receiver tends to have a better tuner, you could take the output from that into your video capture card input and use the included software or a 3rd party software (then discard the video if you have no option to not record it), or into your sound card's line in and record with whatever you like.

You might crack open the Wireshark and see if there is a way to attach (connector or solder) a larger antenna whether that be a telescoping type as found on portable radios, or a length of wire as used on many receivers.

I use an old Walkman that has a tuner as well as tape. Headphone out to line in on the sound card (using mb audio on mine). Audacity is a free download that will record and edit.

Thanks. I thought about using a separate radio but I need a timer to start and stop the recording. It's www.coasttocoastam.com which is on from midnight - 0400 and as far as I know they don't do netcasting. It worked fair enough OTA for me to get it most of the time but I haven't gotten it to work since moving to Vista. I suppose I could make it dual boot and use XP. I hadn't thought of that until this morning. I am going to open it up and see if I can tweak the antenna a little. I live in a city with 12 major stations and I'm lucky to get 2-3 at night. Thanks!
