True.

For every group that signs to a major label and "makes it"

There's probably about 10 who signed and were lousily promoted
and now actually owe the record label money from their advance
and still are under contract to record 3 or 4 more albums.

I didn't say they didn't have good alblums. They're are plenty of good bands with zero hits out there. What I said was completely correct. They had one hit years ago. They might have had great alblums but they never got any airtime. At least not on any stations I heard.

calling a band a "one hit wonder" comes with the stereotype that they got lucky & have very little/no talent

no one considers the Grateful Dead a "one hit wonder" & they only had 1 hit in the top 40

They had other hits. Casey Jones and Truckin' are 2 examples.

Touch of Grey in 1987 was the only TOP 40 "hit" GD had

When I said "hit" I wasn't refering to top 40/100 etc hits but rather songs that get a significant amount of air time. There are plenty of songs that get worn out on the radio but never get very high on the charts for tons of reasons.

I don't believe any song gets a significant amount of air time that doesn't apper on the TOP 40/100. At least this is the case with POP/ROCK/RAP/COUNTRY stations.
Lots of airtime is synonymous (sp?) with TOP 40.

Well, I was going to go dig up some proof by taking a peek at the current charts but billboard sucks ass and won't let you see them unless you register. Uh, no thanks.

The only reason STH didn't get on the Billboard is because it was never released as a single.

IV had 2 singles:
Black Dog which peaked at #15
Rock And Roll which peaked at #47

IV has sold over 22million
