One of my boxes is a PIII 600 Slot 1, 440BX (Asus p2b), 256 PC100, with a Geforce 2 MX, one of the 1st MX cards that came out. My bro is using it and wants to upgrade the video card. Shall I get him a Ti200? Or is that overkill for that box. What do you guys recommend, from the nvidia line up?

A Ti 200 would not be overkill in my opinion.
Granted, the P3-600 will have trouble shifting loads of data to keep the card happy, but compared to the MX the extra graphics ability and memory throughput will make a noticeable improvement in games regardless of graphics complexity, etc. Also the improved T&L engine of the Ti200 will give an improvement in games that use it.

In all, even if its not the ideal combination of CPU and graphics card, an upgrade from an MX to a Ti200 should be worthwhile.

I've a celeron 566@850 ( i think that is just a little bit faster than yours) and i've left my G400
to a MSI Geforce 3 ti 200. And it's great. Every thing perfect@ 1024x768x32bit every thing on! And a frame rate ~90 fps

Since the CPU is the limiting factor, you can jack up the res/features (ones that only require the video's GPU) sky high and the FPS will remain about the same.

The Ti200 is a overkill unless you're planning to upgrade that CPU later on..

A Ti 200 is definatly overkill. Even a standard GeForce 2 might be overkill. When my primary box was still a Celeron 566 @ 850, I was using a Radeon 64MB DDR VIVO, and wondering why it was so slow. Upon upgrading to a P3 700 @ 933, my framerate jumped about 20%.

BTW, shameless plug, that Radeon VIVO card is for sale for $100 shipped if anyone wants to buy it :)

Yep, unless the game is CPU bottle-necked, you can turn on AA with max details and suffer little to no penalty in FPS with a slower CPU like a P3 600.

I have a Ti200 for my computer. P3 550 w/256 meg ram. No, I'm not using the card to its full potential, but it's a hell of a lot better than the V3 I replaced. :) I do plan on putting together a new computer later on this year though so I'll probably transfer it to that one.
