Recommended routers?

Well it looks like i'm going to need a router for my home network. What's good? I want to spend about $80. It would be cool if i could make up a list of a few good ones that fit my budget and then see which one's available at the local store, or eBay, whatever. Thanks!

Yep the local store has this for roughly $90USD. Anyone else recommends this model?

SMC Barricade is also good... should be around the same price as the Linksys, but it has print server built-in... In terms of other features, it's the same as Linksys...

I've installed literally 20-25 of these Linksys routers and never hear any flack from the clients....solid as a rock and if it ever flakes out on them I just have them unplug it and plug it back .... voila! .... internet a mundo!

I've heard that linksys routers are a bit more troublesome to setup. You need to have some background knowledge of routers before u set one of those up.

But DLink routers are quite stable and easy to figure out and setup.

Linksys routers are very easy to set up... I had no idea how to set up a router when I first got mine, and I got it going within a half an hour... since then I've put in about 3 linksys routers and all still work w/out any complaints 🙂

Almost all the routers are just plug-and-play (not plug-and-pray 🙂 ), so you should have no problems setting up any of them... dont worry!

Some need to RTFM, some don't. It should be a 2 min job to set one up.

Of all the routers I've set up, Netgear and D-link are the best right out of the box and both can go on forever without restarting. I never had good luck with Linksys, my first three had firmware problems, locking up under heavy download and dropping connections like crazy. That was almost a year ago. I tried one again last week (BSF41?, the 4 port one), a fresh one out of CompUSA since a friend insisted upon it for his home network. It was OK with one PC, when two are attached, it drops one. I cannot believe it had the same problems from a year ago! We got a D-Link DI-704 instead and it was zero problems from the start. I personally use a Netgear RP114 and it has been on since summer and not a hiccup.
