Recommended resolutions

The recommended resolution for my monitor is 1280x1024 If I use it I can't even read, all the stuff is so small. But it works good gaming at that resolution. So, is it ok if I use 800x600 @ 56 Mhz for desktop and 1280 x 1024 @ 60 for gaming? Will it hurt my monitor?

I tried the 120 dpi setting but it was still way small. What custom setting should I use?
EDIT: even if i get the desktop at like 150 or 200 percent. Internet Exlplorer is still way small. It seems it only changes the window and not the content.

1280 is small? I like mine at 1920x1200.

i use a 800x600 desktop too, i just can't seem to get large enough fonts but i'm going to try messing around with it some more when i have time.

in IE, you are changing the view setting right?

For custom settings, just go as big as you need to. For Internet Explorer, just hold your control key and roll your mouse wheel to change text size. Or you can use the lower resolution, but the recomended resolution is pixel for pixel how the screen is designed so you will get the best image quality at that resolution. The best solution is probably to see an optometrist. 😉
